A 22-year-old youth, distressed after being cheated in a love marriage, stayed without food or water for six days in an attempt to end his life. When this failed, he went to Mortakka Bridge intending to jump into the Narmada river but could not gather the courage. He later consumed sulfas tablets and went straight to the police to narrate his ordeal. According to the police, the youth was living in Indore and reached Mortakka on Sunday with the intention of committing suicide. He said he sat on the bridge the entire day but could not gather the courage to jump into the Narmada. He was carrying sulfas tablets, which he consumed before going on his own to the police outpost.
