The Maharashtra Police have arrested Congress leader Yashwant Silawat from Khandwa. Silawat was attending a Congress protest on Sunday afternoon when a team from the Maharashtra Police arrived along with local Kotwali police and took him into custody. He was questioned for some time at the Kotwali police station. After that, the Maharashtra Police formally arrested him and took him to Dhule. The action was taken by Sirpur Taluka Police of Dhule district in a case related to attempted murder. According to the police, about a year ago Silawat allegedly fired at a man, leaving him seriously injured. After the incident, Silawat fled from the spot. Several police teams were formed to arrest him. Meanwhile, Silawat had applied for anticipatory bail in court. Police team came from Dhule The Maharashtra Police reached Khandwa in an Innova car bearing registration number MH19 ER 7707 and took Silawat with them to Dhule. When media persons tried to speak to him during the action, Silawat said he was involved in property buying and selling. He claimed that a case had come up and the police were taking him for questioning. He added that he would return and share his side of the story with the media. Arrest during Congress protest On Sunday afternoon, the district and city Congress committees were holding a protest against the Centre’s decision to change the name of the MGNREGA scheme. Congress leaders were gathered at the municipal corporation square when Silawat was arrested in front of them. After this, Congress leaders went to the Kotwali police station. The police explained the entire matter to them, following which they left. Father was a minister in Digvijaya Singh government Yashwant Silawat’s father, Hiralal Silawat, was also a Congress leader. He won the Pandhana Assembly seat twice during the Digvijaya Singh government and was made Fisheries Minister in his second term. Yashwant Silawat himself had staked a claim for the Khandwa Assembly seat, but the party did not give him a ticket.
