The Madhya Pradesh High Court will hear the bail plea of paediatrician Dr Praveen Soni in the case involving the deaths of 25 children in Chhindwara and Betul allegedly after consuming Colddrif cough syrup on Thursday. Doctor blames Pharma company and Drug Department Dr Soni has submitted documents before the High Court claiming that the children’s deaths were caused by the contaminated solvent mixed in Batch No. 13 by Sresan Pharma Company. He argued that had the Drug Department tested the batch on time, the incident could have been prevented. The doctor strongly adhered to the fact that he has been prescribing this medicine for 20 years without any adverse reactions, and is now being punished for the company’s negligence. High Court sets date for bail hearing Justice Pramod Agrawal’s bench has scheduled the hearing of Dr Soni’s bail application for Thursday. Dr Soni, a paediatrician from Parasia (Chhindwara), was arrested on 5 October for prescribing the cough syrup to the children who later died. Lower court had rejected bail Earlier, on 8 October 2025, the court of Judge Gautam Kumar Gujar in Parasia had rejected Dr Soni’s bail plea, after which he approached the High Court. He remains in jail. Police have also arrested Jyoti Soni, the doctor’s wife, in whose name the medical store operated, from where the alleged contaminated syrup was sold.
