Since the Indigo crisis, over 350 tourists from MP have postponed or rescheduled their trips, according to the Travel Agent Association. Affected travellers include those from Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, and Gwalior. Travel agents say flight cancellations during the peak season have disrupted not only tourists’ plans but also preparations for weddings and large events. Amol Kataria, State President of the Travel Agents Federation of India, said, December is the month for the winter schedule. For this, tourists start making plans two to three months in advance. Flights started getting cancelled from December 5th and are still ongoing, but all the hotels in India have given credit notes to customers for up to two months ahead. Our association has received figures showing that approximately 350 tours from MP have been affected. These figures are mainly from Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, and Jabalpur. Hotel operators issuing credit notes
Travel agents say that crores of rupees of people are stuck. While airlines are offering refunds and re-bookings, hotel operators are issuing credit notes, which have provided minor relief, but the crisis is also about how credit notes will work when bookings are full during the season. Higher number of cancellations Travel agents said the season begins at the end of November, with weddings and New Year trips boosting travel in December. However, widespread flight cancellations in the past week have led to large-scale postponement of holiday packages. As a result, new bookings have slowed, and hotel occupancy has also declined. Booked directly, refused to refund
Vishal Kale, who booked a trip to Kashmir, said, Indigo kept postponing from morning till evening. Our booking was for the afternoon. We couldn’t even inform the hotel that we weren’t coming. We had booked directly, and now the hotel has refused to give a refund. Kale further says, Our room was reserved, and if we couldn’t reach, there’s no fault of the hotel operator in this. However, after much effort, the hotel operator agreed to give half a credit note. Jitendra Singh Chauhan, who booked for Goa, said, Due to flight cancellation, the hotel booking was also cancelled. The hotel management gave us a credit note. Now, when making a new booking, the hotel is not available on the desired date. IndiGo cancels multiple flights from Indore
