Mandsaur Joint Collector tells wife, ‘Why don’t you die’:Wife makes serious allegations; says, ‘Was harassed even when on ventilator in hospital’

The husband crossed all limits of torture. Mixed abortion pills in jaggery and fed them. He used to say eating jaggery would result in a male child. Planned and got an abortion done at a private hospital. These allegations have been made by Nirmala, the wife of Mandsaur Joint Collector Rahul Chauhan. Nirmala said that while she was on a ventilator, her husband would come to her ear and say – Why don’t you die even after so much torture? Nirmala shared her pain with Dainik Bhaskar. She said that she has filed complaints from TI to PMO, documents of which are available with her. She also said that when her husband himself is in charge of the CM Help Line, one can imagine his pressure and influence. Behavior changed with job promotion
Nirmala said that in 2018, she became friends with Rahul Chauhan through social media. His behaviour was good even when they got married. Then, as his position in the job increased, his behaviour also changed. There was no need for hospitalisation, yet her husband got her admitted to a private hospital in Indore through a friend. I had not even shown to any female doctor before this. Here I was given a drip. Only after this did I start having symptoms of miscarriage and have a miscarriage. During this time, my mother was also not told anything. After this, I was admitted to Bombay Hospital for 35 days. Out of this, I was on a ventilator for 20 days. I have the documents. ‘Threatened to kill by putting knife on throat’
Nirmala said, after marriage, her husband was posted in Khargone, Badwah, Manawar, Dhar, Dharampuri and Sardarpur. During this time, he would often come home drunk and abuse and beat her over minor issues.
I was kept in such government quarters where water, even rations, were not available. Once during a domestic dispute, along with beating, he put a kitchen knife to my neck and threatened to kill me. When I ran from there, someone on the way helped by calling my mother. This incident happened during the Corona period. ‘Husband has relationships with many women’
Nirmala says that after marriage, she found many objectionable things which revealed that her husband had relationships with other women. He would stay away from home for many days. He wouldn’t tell where he went. At the guest house of Maral Factory in Dhamnod, he grabbed my hair and dragged me, and beat me severely when I questioned him about coming alone. Nirmala’s advocate Praveen Kachole said that despite such severe harassment, police have only registered a case of dowry harassment. They will file an application in court against this and attempt to get serious sections added through a supplementary chargesheet. Especially the wife’s abortion was not an ordinary incident; it was done in a planned manner. When the abortion pill given in jaggery was not effective, an attempt was made to abort through IV drip. It was during the Corona period. There is suspicion that the husband intended to kill. Advocate Kachole said that the maintenance case against husband Rahul Chauhan was heard in the Family Court for two years. Then the court dismissed it because the address was written as Sardarpur. In this case, recently on November 25, the Indore High Court ordered to restore it and directed both parties to appear in the Family Court on December 1. Joint Collector says – Wife and mother-in-law demanded 1 crore Joint Collector Rahul Chauhan has denied all allegations. He said that whatever orders the court gives will be accepted. I have been separated from my wife for three and a half years, and the divorce case is ongoing. Nirmala’s family is very poor. They don’t even have their own house. My wife and mother-in-law harassed me a lot. They filed a domestic violence case against me, which is pending in court. I am giving them Rs 15,000 every month. Now they are demanding more against this interim order. Both are demanding one crore from me. I am a government servant, so where will I get so much money from?
