bcci-meeting-to-discuss-rohit,-kohli’s-odi-future-soon:selectors-and-management-to-meet-after-south-africa-odis-to-finalise-2027-plans-–-report

With India’s ODI season nearing its end, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing to hold a meeting with selectors and the team management after the ongoing three-match series against South Africa to firm up a roadmap for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. Top board officials, head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar are expected to convene in Ahmedabad after the final ODI in Visakhapatnam next week. The discussions will revolve around defining the roles and expectations from India’s two senior-most batters, who have yet to sit down with the management for a long-term ODI review. There is also concern over how quickly the pair can regain rhythm after long breaks, given they play only one format. While they scored in the final ODI in Australia, they appeared rusty earlier in the series, something the decision-makers feel India cannot afford frequently. The management still expects Rohit to maintain his aggressive, front-foot template at the top of the order, rather than taking extra time to settle, as seen in Australia. Both he and Kohli are expected to continue leading the batting group to ease the transition for younger players. The board was reportedly not pleased with their lack of competitive cricket and is likely to advise both to participate in next month’s Vijay Hazare Trophy. India will host New Zealand for a limited-overs series in January before the season ends. Their next ODI assignment is a three-match series in England in July.
