Idols believed to be of Lord Ram and Mother Sita were found in Papet village of Banda development block in Sagar during mosque land foundation excavation. After the news broke, members of Hindu organisations reached Papet on Friday and performed worship. Seeing the crowd in the village, police arrived to maintain security and pacified the people. The police and administration have informed the archaeology department and called them to the site. The idol will be investigated, after which its age and ownership will be determined. Labourers informed people, prompting villagers and Hindu organisations to arrive, chant slogans, and install the idols on a platform at the spot, where worship was performed. The Archaeological Department will investigate this. The villagers have been told that the idols will be investigated after being kept in police custody. The situation in the village is normal. The land where the idols are said to have been found belongs to the mosque. The ongoing construction work there has been stopped. No work will be done until the matter is investigated.
