A robbery occurred in Jabalpur’s agricultural produce market where two scooter-borne robbers attacked a grain merchant’s accountant with an iron rod on Wednesday afternoon and fled with ₹19 lakh. The incident took place when the merchant’s accountant Vikas Sahu was returning to the office after withdrawing money from the bank. Robbers stopped Vikas and attacked him Reportedly, as soon as Vikas reached gate number 1 of the market on his bike, the robbers suddenly stopped him, attacked him and fled with ₹19 lakh. Traders stood in protest after incident When traders learned about the incident, they reached the market office in large numbers and warned that there would be no purchases in the market until robbers were caught. ‘Complaints ignored despite paying taxes’ Traders said that even though they pay taxes to the Mandi Secretary on time, no security arrangements are in place. They alleged that the presence of drunk individuals, fights and drug users has become routine. Repeated written complaints to the Mandi administration were ignored, they said, leading to Wednesday’s major incident. Deepak Dongria, President of Jabalpur Grain and Oilseed Traders Association, says that until the accused are caught, there will be no purchasing and no trader will participate in the auction. As soon as information about the daylight robbery was received, Vijaynagar and Gohalpur police station reached the spot.
