In the first match of the Tri-Series, Pakistan had to go into the last over to win against Zimbabwe. The team achieved the target of 148 runs by losing 5 wickets in 19.2 overs. After Fakhar’s dismissal, Nawaz came to bat. He, along with Usman Khan, forged a match-winning 36-run partnership off 20 balls for the sixth wicket. Usman Khan scored 37 runs off 28 balls, including 3 fours in his innings. Nawaz hit two consecutive fours on the first and second balls of the last over of the innings, securing the match for Pakistan. He scored an unbeaten 21 runs off 12 balls with a strike rate of 175, including 2 fours and one six in his innings.
