The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists entered its third day in Bhopal on Thursday. BLOs (Booth Level Officers) and supervisors have been active in the field since morning. So far, approximately 30 percent of forms have been distributed, with 2,029 BLOs monitored by 250 supervisors. CEO reviews SIR preparations Shubra Saxena, Director of the Election Commission of India, New Delhi, conducted a meeting at the Collectorate Auditorium to review preparations for the SIR survey. She emphasized that the Bhopal district should set an exemplary model for SIR implementation nationwide. Saxena expressed displeasure over low mapping activity on the BLO app and instructed all BLOs to upload field data promptly. Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh and Municipal Commissioner Sanskriti Jain were directed to strengthen help desks in urban areas and ensure BLOs carry out SIR activities efficiently. Outstanding field work praised During the meeting, BLO Brajesh Sharma of Huzur Assembly Constituency 155 was commended for mapping 76% of voters in a single day with the assistance of IT expert volunteers. Director Saxena instructed all EROs to complete 100% mapping of eligible voters on the BLO app within seven days, linking records to the 2003 voter list. Special camps are to be conducted in Bhopal’s slum areas. One-to-one discussions with BLOs The CEO held one-on-one discussions with field-level BLOs, emphasizing that no eligible voter should be left out and no ineligible voter included. She stressed that the primary goal of SIR is to prepare a clean and transparent voter list. BLOs were also advised on better training and effective use of the BLO app. Supervision and accountability Collector Singh stated that negligence will not be tolerated, noting that an employee has already been dismissed for poor performance. 250 supervisors have been deployed to monitor BLOs. Any absenteeism or dereliction of duty will result in suspension or strict action. Door-to-door survey and verification process This is the first door-to-door voter survey since 2003. Residents whose names are in the current list but not in the 2003 list must provide information about which family member was listed then. No documents will be collected from voters; verification will be done using forms provided by BLOs. Each voter will receive a calculation sheet to fill in personal details including name, address, age, and EPIC number. Deaths, relocations, or entries in other states will be noted and verified by the SDM. Timeline for SIR process The 2003 voter list is available online at https://voters.eci.gov.in. Select the SIR option, choose state and constituency, and search by polling booth or locality.
