The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list begins today across Madhya Pradesh. Following the Election Commission’s directions, 65,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit homes to verify voters and update information based on the 2003 voter revision data. Every voter at every booth in all 230 assembly constituencies will be rechecked to ensure accuracy. Training completed for officers Training for all Collectors, Divisional Commissioners, Supervisors, and BLOs has been completed. They have been briefed about the Election Commission’s guidelines. The voter list in MP has been frozen since 27 October, which means no new changes can be made until the revision process starts. From today, BLOs will begin distributing forms issued by the Commission. These forms will be partly filled and partly blank. Voters will need to fill in the missing details. BLOs will visit each house three times to complete verification. If a voter’s information appears doubtful, supporting documents will be requested later. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sanjeev Jha has instructed district Collectors to monitor the process closely and ensure that the verification is conducted seriously. BLOs will not collect documents During the door-to-door survey, BLOs will not collect any documents from voters. Their job is to record information and distribute forms. Special instructions have been issued for married women voters. Women who were not 18 or unmarried during the 2003 SIR will now have to get their voter ID number and polling station number from their parental home to prove their identity. The CEO clarified that BLOs will only collect documents if a voter’s record does not match the earlier database. In such cases, the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) will issue a notice to request documents separately. How the SIR process works The Election Commission conducted SIRs in all states between 2002 and 2008. The data for MP’s 2003 SIR is available on both the Election Commission’s website and the MP CEO’s website. Voters can check their details — such as voter ID number and polling station number — using the online database. They must fill in these details on the form given by the BLO during the survey. Form 6 for new voters According to CEO Sanjeev Jha, families with members turning 18 years old by 1 January 2026 will be given Form 6 to register new voters. If any family member has moved away or passed away, that information should also be shared so their name can be deleted from the list. BLOs will carry official identity cards issued by the Commission. Citizens have been advised to share information only after verifying the BLO’s identity card. How to find your name in the voter list If a voter cannot find their details online, they will need to submit one of 11 acceptable documents listed in the form. The BLO will then verify the voter based on that information. Aim of the drive The SIR aims to ensure every eligible citizen’s information is accurate and up to date before future elections. With this process, the Election Commission hopes to clean up voter lists, remove duplicate or incorrect entries, and make sure every genuine voter in Madhya Pradesh is correctly verified.
