The Madhya Pradesh High Court has dismissed a petition filed by government school teachers challenging the state’s e-attendance system. With this order, all government school teachers in the state will now have to mark their attendance only through the online system. Petition filed against e-attendance order The case was heard by a division bench of Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and Justice Vinay Saraf.The petition was filed by Sunil Kumar Singh, president of the Guest Teacher Coordination Committee, Ashoknagar.He had challenged the state government’s order dated 20 June 2025, which made e-attendance mandatory for teachers from 1 July 2025. Concerns over network and smartphone access The petitioner argued that digital infrastructure in rural and remote parts of Madhya Pradesh is poor.Many teachers face issues with mobile networks and internet connectivity.It was also pointed out that several teachers cannot afford smartphones, which makes it difficult for them to use the e-attendance app. Government defends e-attendance move Additional Advocate General Nilesh Yadav represented the state government.He stated that the e-attendance system was introduced to promote transparency and accountability in schools.He added that there is no legal hurdle in implementing this system. Court dismisses plea, upholds system After hearing both sides, the High Court refused to interfere in the matter.The bench ruled that there was no reason for judicial intervention.It dismissed the petition and upheld the government’s decision as valid. As a result, all government school teachers in Madhya Pradesh must now mark their attendance through the e-attendance portal or mobile app every day.
