The country’s largest government lender State Bank of India (SBI) made a profit of ₹20,160 crore in the second quarter of financial year 2025-26. This is up 10% on an annual basis. In the same quarter last year, SBI had made a profit of ₹18,331 crore. SBI’s profit includes a gain of ₹4,593.22 from selling 13.18% stake in Yes Bank. In the July-September (Q2FY26) quarter, State Bank’s total interest income was ₹1.20 lakh crore. This was ₹1.13 lakh crore in the same quarter last year. It increased by 5.08% on an annual basis. Meanwhile, SBI’s standalone net interest income in the second quarter was ₹42,984 crore. This was ₹41,620 crore in the same quarter last year. It increased by 3.28% on an annual basis. Net NPA decreased by 9% to ₹18,460 crore During the second quarter (Q2FY26), the bank’s net NPA (Non Performing Asset) decreased by 9.04% to ₹18,460 crore. During July-September 2025, this was ₹20,294 crore. SBI sold 13.18% stake in Yes Bank on 17 September SBI sold its 13.18% stake in Yes Bank at ₹21.50 per share on 17 September 2025, resulting in a profit of ₹4,593.22 crore for the bank. The company has considered this profit as exceptional income, which will be added to capital reserves. After selling the stake, SBI’s shareholding in Yes Bank reduced to 10.78% as of 30 September 2025. However, SBI will still be considered as an investment associate company.
