Following a controversy in the Indian Heaven Premier League (IHPL) held in Srinagar, DDCA has ordered its cricketers, support staff, and match officials not to participate in any unauthorised tournament. The Delhi District Cricket Association issued a letter on Tuesday. It stated that action would be taken against anyone participating in any unauthorized tournament during their tenure. On Monday (November 3), veteran batsman Chris Gayle, Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, and Devon Smith were stranded in a hotel in Srinagar, as the IHPL organizers abandoned the tournament midway and fled. DDCA’s Order What is the whole dispute? Organizers fled, tournament had to be cancelled Mohali’s Yuva Society organized the Indian Heaven Premier League in Srinagar. The final match of this league, which started on October 25, was to be played on November 8. However, the organizers abandoned the league midway and fled. Due to non-payment to the players, the league was suddenly cancelled midway. Meanwhile, the hotel management prevented players from leaving, as their payment had not been made. The matter came to light when England’s umpire Melissa Juniper said- We have not been paid. The hotel staff told us that the organizers have absconded. The police reached the hotel, but no official confirmation of any action has been made so far. 8 teams participated in the league. These included Srinagar Sultans, Jammu Lions, Ladakh Heroes, Pulwama Titans, Uri Panthers, Gulmarg Royals, Patnitop Warriors, and Kishtwar Giants. Each team included a former international player. Bakshi Stadium rented For the organization of the league, Parminder Singh, Chairman of Yuva Society, had rented Bakshi Stadium from the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council. Payment for this had also been made in advance. Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, said- The organizers had rented the stadium and paid for it. We have no direct connection with the league. I was only present as a guest at the opening ceremony. Stars like Gayle-Shakib, yet the tournament was a flop Despite the presence of international star players like Gayle, the tournament saw very low spectator numbers. The organizers offered heavy discounts on tickets and even sought help from local social media influencer Umar Zargar for promotion but did not achieve the expected success. Now questions are being raised as to how Yuva Society, an organisation without any prior event organising experience, was allowed to use a government stadium for such a large tournament.
