The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has embarked on one of its most ambitious technological transformations, aiming to make the city a national model for digital governance and transparency. The civic body is digitizing nearly one crore official documents through an AI-based scanning system, while simultaneously expanding its Digital Address Project to three more wards following a successful pilot phase. The digitization work, which has already covered 19 lakh documents, is designed to preserve records related to birth, death, and marriage certificates, property ownership, building permissions, and other administrative files. Once completed, citizens will be able to access their verified documents online in a single click, without needing to visit municipal offices. AI-based digitization for one crore civic records Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav inspected the ongoing work and emphasized that digital documentation is essential for efficiency and accountability. Indore has taken a decisive step toward becoming a digitally managed city. Once the process is complete, citizens will not need to visit municipal offices repeatedly. Their documents will be accessible instantly, securely, and without physical applications. he said. The IMC has already completed the tender process and appointed an agency to carry out the project. The initiative aligns with the Digital India Mission and the Madhya Pradesh government’s e-Governance framework, aimed at integrating digital tools in public service delivery. The digitization also includes old project files, tenders, and administrative records across departments, ensuring faster retrieval and seamless governance. Decision pending on cloud storage for civic data A crucial aspect of the digitization drive is the secure storage of massive volumes of digital data. Mayor Bhargav confirmed that the Municipal Corporation is evaluating options for cloud storage to safeguard all scanned records. We are trying to get permission to store the data in state government’s cloud space. However, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Rackbank have offered us free cloud storage. We will study both options carefully before making a final decision. the Mayor said. He added that once the storage framework is finalized, all municipal departments will be linked to a central digital archive, ensuring real-time access to records and data security compliant with government standards. Expansion of the digital address project Alongside document digitization, IMC is expanding its Digital Address Project to Wards 71, 79, and 83, after successfully completing the pilot in Ward 82 (Sudama Nagar). The project introduces unique QR-coded digital address plates for every property, allowing instant access to verified address details, ownership data, and property verification status. The initiative, implemented through CSR funding, places no financial burden on citizens and aims to streamline urban planning and property verification processes. Pilot project achievements in Ward 82 In the pilot phase, IMC surveyed 7,185 properties in Ward 82, including: Out of these, 3,924 properties have been assigned unique digital IDs, while 2,545 are under process. The survey also identified 250 new properties and removed 466 duplicate records, improving the accuracy of municipal property data. Indore set to become India’s first digital address city Once the Digital Address Project is implemented citywide, Indore will become India’s first city with a comprehensive digital address and documentation system. Officials say the dual projects, AI-based digitization and QR-coded addresses, will drastically reduce paperwork, strengthen transparency, and improve urban governance.
