In Chhatarpur, a drunk driver driving a school van crushed two cars and around 20 motorcycles late Tuesday night. He also hit a woman on a scooter and her daughter, leaving both injured. Angry locals beat the driver before handing him over to the police. The incident took place near Chhatarpur District Hospital. Kotwali police have taken the accused, Ikram, into custody and started an investigation. Arvind Singh, a guard at the hospital, said Ikram recklessly drove school van number MP16 T 2066 and damaged several vehicles. When Singh tried to stop him, Ikram attempted to run over him, but the guard jumped aside and escaped. After hitting the vehicles, the van stopped near the hospital gate. People present at the scene pulled out driver Ikram and started beating him. The hospital outpost police and guards intervened and rescued the accused from the crowd. School van used as a hearse According to guard Arvind Singh, Ikram also uses the school van as a hearse. He is also accused of blood brokering. He often roams around the hospital premises drunk. Demand for compensation for damages The owners of the vehicles damaged in the accident have demanded compensation for the losses. They say that the gathering of brokers and anti-social elements in the district hospital premises has become a problem. Despite administrative action, there is no permanent improvement.
