bhopal-engineer-seen-running-semi-naked-as-constables-chase-him:new-footage-emerges-in-dsp’s-brother-in-law-death-case;-father-claims-son-beaten-with-rifle-butt

A shocking case of police brutality in Bhopal has left an engineer dead. Udit Gayaki, 25, died after being assaulted by policemen on Thursday night in Sonagiri. CCTV footage shows Udit being chased, beaten, and humiliated by the officers. His family has raised serious concerns over the FIR and demanded that the case be transferred to the CBI for a fair investigation. New CCTV footage emerges Dainik Bhaskar obtained CCTV footage showing Udit running semi-naked as a policeman chased him with a rifle slung over his shoulder. The officer pressed Udit’s feet with his shoe and rubbed the tip of the shoe on his foot. Another policeman can be seen talking to Udit’s friends nearby. Udit’s father, Rajkumar Gayaki, said his son was also beaten with the butt of a rifle. Marks of the assault were visible on his body. Family alleges flaws in FIR Rajkumar Gayaki told Dainik Bhaskar: “My only son is gone. The police are not taking proper action. There are many flaws in the FIR. We do not trust the Bhopal police investigation. It seems they are trying to protect the accused.” He demanded that the case be handed over to the CBI. “The culprits should not get any punishment less than hanging. My son suffered a painful death. All my dreams are gone. I invested my entire life in him.” Mother mourns son’s death On Sunday, Udit’s friend Biman visited his mother, Sangeeta Gayaki, at their home in Bagh Dilkusha Colony, Bhopal. She was wailing, saying: “My piece of heart, where have you gone? How will I live without you? I long to hear your voice. Call me ‘Mummy’ once again.” The house was filled with mourning. Family members and friends continue to grieve the tragic loss. Accused policemen produced in court Both accused constables were produced in court on Sunday. Udit’s uncle, K.K. Gayaki, criticised the FIR. He said it does not mention that Udit was beaten with sticks and assaulted with intent to kill. “CCTV footage clearly shows he was beaten like an animal. One policeman held him while the other assaulted him brutally.” Medical report and injuries The post-mortem report confirmed serious injuries. Udit’s pancreas was damaged, but the FIR does not clarify if it was caused by the assault. Marks of being beaten with sticks and rifle butts were visible on several parts of his body, including private areas, according to his father. Sequence of events according to FIR The FIR mentions that Udit and his friends had come from Sehore to Bhopal and were drinking on the way. They met at Indrapuri late at night and played loud music near a red i10 car. Two policemen arrived and saw the group. Udit ran, one officer chased him, and another took him into a car. Udit’s condition worsened, so he was taken to Sai Hospital, then referred to AIIMS, where he was declared dead. Alleged coercion of witnesses Udit’s family claims that the police coerced friends into giving statements that omitted the assault. This, they allege, was done to protect the accused officers. Accused policemen claim ‘mild force’ Constable Saurabh Arya claimed in his statement that they went to Indrapuri after receiving complaints about rowdy youths. He said Udit and his friends were drunk and misbehaved. Arya said Udit tried to run, and slight force was applied to stop him. He denied any serious assault. Constable Santosh also said he used slight force when Udit lost consciousness. Both officers claimed they left Udit with his companions after the incident. Family demands justice Rajkumar Gayaki and other family members demand a CBI investigation. They want the accused punished with the maximum sentence to set an example. “If justice is not served, it will encourage policemen to act brutally in the future. My son was mercilessly beaten and killed. The guilty must face death for this crime,” Rajkumar said.
