A young man, fed up with alleged blackmail by his ex-girlfriend and her family, ended his life on Friday morning in the Baliyari area, under the Kotwali police station. The victim, 20-year-old Prem Kumar Shah, left a suicide note detailing the reasons behind his tragic decision. In the note, Prem wrote that his ex-girlfriend Seema Kewat and her boyfriend Suresh Kewat, along with Seema’s father and brother, had been threatening him. They allegedly demanded ₹5 lakh, warning that if he failed to pay, they would frame him in a false rape case and harm him. Prem claimed that Seema intended to marry Suresh after receiving the money. Family protests at police station Enraged by Prem’s death, his family staged a protest outside Kotwali police station, placing his body there and demanding action against the accused. They insisted that an FIR be filed and the accused arrested. The family also demanded that girls should face the same legal consequences as boys in such cases. The police assured a fair investigation and appropriate legal action, after which the family agreed to take the body for cremation.
