Bhopal’s Shahpura police on Friday solved a blind murder case within 18 hours of its reporting, leading to the detention of two juveniles while one accused remains absconding, the police said. A man named Ajay Kushwaha (22), a resident of Lalita Nagar colony in Kolar Road, was hacked to death by the accused late Wednesday night. He had almost 12 cases registered against him. Victim found dead near tin shed Shahpura police station in-charge Lokendra Singh Thakur said that on October 8, 2025, complainant Vinod Kumar Kushwaha informed the police that his son, Ajay, was lying dead near a tin shed close to Bharat Nagar. Initial reports suggested that unidentified individuals had strangled him with a belt. Following this, police registered a case under Section 194 of the BNSS and sent the body for post-mortem at Gandhi Medical College. During investigation, police noted that a black rexine belt was tightly wrapped around the victim’s neck and there were injury marks consistent with an attack by a sharp object. Circumstantial evidence and the post-mortem confirmed homicide. The police thereafter registered a murder case against unidentified individuals and began a probe. CCTV footage leads to breakthrough The Shahpura police team sifted through the CCTV cameras installed around the crime scene, and statements from locals and eyewitnesses were collected. Based on the evidence, two juveniles were taken into custody. During questioning, they confessed that Ajay often threatened them with a knife, which led them to plan his murder. They admitted to attacking him with a screwdriver before strangling him with a belt in a secluded spot. One accused still absconding While the two juveniles are in custody, police are still searching for the third accused, identified as Vikas Chauhan. Officials said further investigations are underway, and efforts are being intensified to apprehend the absconding accused.
