Companies like IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet have announced an increase of over 1,700 extra flights during the Diwali season. This decision was taken after a meeting with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Sunday. In the meeting, DGCA also cracked down on arbitrary fare hikes by airlines. DGCA said – at the behest of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, high-demand routes are being monitored to prevent arbitrary fare increases. IndiGo increased the most by 730 After the DGCA meeting, IndiGo announced the addition of 730 additional flights on 42 routes, Air India and Air India Express announced 486 flights on 20 routes, and SpiceJet announced 546 flights on 38 routes. In total, 1,700 extra flights will operate during the Diwali season. Ticket Prices Became Expensive Due to Rising Fuel Costs In 2025, ticket prices are expected to be further impacted by the continuous increase in Air Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices. In the last four months, ATF prices have increased by approximately Rs 12,000 per kilolitre. Since ATF accounts for more than 50% of an airline’s operational cost, its price directly affects ticket prices. Pilots’ Federation Demands Investigation of Boeing 787 Additionally, the Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has written to the DGCA, urging a thorough investigation of the electrical systems of all Boeing 787 aircraft in the country. This demand comes after an incident on an Air India Boeing 787 aircraft. The aircraft was traveling from Amritsar to Birmingham, where just before landing, the Emergency Turbine Power (RAT) automatically deployed. The airline confirmed that the aircraft landed safely.
