A teacher father allegedly abandoned his three-day-old newborn and concealed him under the stones in a forest in Chhindwara, fearing that the birth of a fourth child could cost him his government job.
The baby survived a night exposed to cold and ant bites before being rescued by villagers and is now admitted to the district hospital in stable condition. Parents already have three children Police identified the accused as Bablu Dandoliya and Rajkumari Dandoliya, a teacher at Nandanwadi Primary School. The couple already has three children and reportedly hid the pregnancy to avoid violating government service rules that could affect their employment. Birth and abandonment details The baby was born at home on September 23 at around 3 am. Soon after delivery, the parents took the newborn to a nearby forest in Nandanwadi village, placed the baby under a heavy stone, and left. The following morning, villagers heard the baby’s cries and removed the stone to find the child alive. The infant was immediately taken to medical care. Medical condition and treatment Doctors stated that exposure to cold and ant bites overnight put the baby at high risk of infection. After initial treatment, the newborn was referred to the district hospital for further care and monitoring. Hospital officials confirm that the child is now stable. Legal action and community reaction Dhanora police have registered a case under Section 93 BNS (abandoning a child). However, villagers claim the act constitutes an attempted murder under Section 109 BNS, alleging that police are being lenient and attempting to close the matter without strict action. Local officials, including SDM and BRC Amarwara Vinod Verma, visited the scene. Verma condemned the incident as “shameful for society”, stating that a notice will be issued to the teacher, and further district-level action will follow. DNA test pending Police in-charge Lakhnal Ahirwar confirmed that DNA testing will be conducted to verify parentage, and subsequent legal proceedings will be based on the results.
