Locals, drawn by news of free helmets, rushed to the site, and some even carried away helmet-filled boxes directly from counters. As two trucks loaded with helmets started leaving, the crowd chased them, creating further confusion. CM Mohan Yadav distributes helmets as part of service fortnight The event was organized as part of the service fortnight, where Chief Minister Mohan Yadav personally handed helmets to bikers before flagging off a rally. The administration, with help from Bhopal Chamber of Commerce, Petrol Dealer Association, and other institutions, distributed around 2,100 helmets at the event. Several dignitaries attended, including Minister Krishna Gaur, MLA Rameshwar Sharma, Nagar Nigam Chairman Kishan Suryavanshi, BJP District President Ravindra Yati, and other officials. 3 pictures of jostling over helmets… Program aims to reduce road accidents Statistics show that from 2021 to 2025, 543 bikers died in 912 road accidents in Bhopal due to not wearing helmets. To raise awareness and reduce fatalities, helmets were distributed free of cost. CM Mohan Yadav stressed, “Wearing a helmet is extremely important. During the Navratri festival, riding safely is crucial. Helmets act as a safety shield. Young riders must avoid reckless driving. Even with modern patrols and sensor technologies on highways, accidents can happen. Helmets are your protection.” Participants voice concerns Arjun Pal from Ban Ganga said, “I wasn’t invited but happened to pass by and received a helmet. The initiative is good, but Bhopal’s roads are in poor condition, which increases accident risks.” Dilip from Rahul Nagar mentioned receiving a message from the Food Department to attend and collect a helmet. Sunil Pethari at Manit Chauraha said, “The helmets provided are of good quality.” Distribution halted due to overcrowding The rally had invited NCC cadets, petrol pump employees, volunteers, and social organizations to assist. However, the news of free helmets drew a massive crowd, resulting in push-and-pull and overcrowding. Helmets could not be distributed at seven counters, leaving many frustrated. Bhopal biker Anand Nigwal said, “I waited for two hours but didn’t get a helmet.” Municipal staff Shagun added that she and her husband waited for two hours without success. Trucks chased by crowd During distribution, two trucks carrying extra helmets began returning, prompting people to chase them. Distributor Saurabh Narwani clarified that 320 additional helmets were being returned, while 1,450 helmets were already distributed. Authorities emphasize road safety Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh stated, “Around 2,100 helmets were distributed through social organizations and associations under public participation. It’s a good initiative to prevent accidents.
