Lonar Lake, a 56,000-year-old crater in India, mysteriously turned pink due to salt-loving microbes called Haloarchaea thriving in its hyper-saline, alkaline waters. Low rainfall and high temperatures increased salinity, creating ideal conditions for these organisms to bloom.
