As Dhanteras 2026 approaches, Indian households are thinking of the age-old tradition of buying precious metals. Gold has traditionally been the default choice for festive wealth creation. But these days, one metal that is really hogging the limelight is silver. No longer just an affordable alternative to gold, barring the recent crash in prices, silver has rapidly positioning itself as a modern, high-potential investment asset. Silver plays a unique double role in the global economy. It is both a precious metal used in jewellery and an indispensable industrial commodity. According to VMPL, and as cited by ANI, today, silver is officially recognised as the “green metal” because it powers key technologies driving the global energy transition: Solar Energy: Photovoltaic solar panels require significant amounts of silver due to its unmatched electrical conductivity. Electric Vehicles (EVs): EVs use nearly twice as much silver as conventional internal combustion engine vehicles for electronic components, sensors, and battery management systems. 5G Infrastructure: Telecommunication networks require silver contacts for stable signal transmission. Because global industrial demand continues to outstrip mine supply, silver is no longer just a hedge against inflation—it has become a structural growth asset. But watchout silver is also known as Devil’s Metal because of its volatile nature In financial markets, silver has earned the historic nickname “Devil’s Metal.” Traders gave it this title because of its extreme price volatility. Because the silver market is much smaller in size than the gold market, even small shifts in supply, industrial demand, or investor sentiment can cause massive price swings in either direction. While this volatility can make short-term trading tricky, it offers long-term investors significant upside potential when structural demand rises. Expert views on silver gold: Top market experts expect both gold and silver to see remarkable price momentum over the coming year. Kedia projects an ambitious price target of ₹1,80,000 per 10 grams for gold and ₹3,00,000 per kg for silver by next Diwali. Market strategist Arun Mantri, Founder of Mantri Finmart, also points to strong underlying fundamentals for commodity-backed assets, urging investors to use tactical pullbacks as buying opportunities, although his view is only for the near term. If we look at the chart, silver is near a good support zone. Overall momentum seems to be neutral.
