Indian shares fell for a second straight session on Wednesday, 8 October, 2026, with the Sensex down nearly 400 points and the Nifty falling more than 100 points, as selling pressure intensified in metal and realty stocks. The Sensex was trading around 72,200, down nearly 400 points, while the Nifty fell more than 100 points to trade at around 22,450. Weakness in Asian and US markets, along with continued selling by foreign investors, weighed on investor sentiment. Asian Markets Trade Lower Major Asian markets were trading lower on Wednesday. South Korea’s Kospi fell 0.81%, while Japan’s Nikkei declined 0.95%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was down 0.39%. US Markets Also End Lower US stocks closed lower on 7 October, adding to the cautious mood in Asian markets. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 341 points, or 0.66%, to 51,180. The Nasdaq declined 61 points, or 0.22%, to 27,539, while the SP 500 slipped 17 points, or 0.22%, to 7,802. Foreign Investors Continue to Sell Foreign investors have remained net sellers of Indian equities, putting further pressure on the market. FII/FPI investors sold shares worth ₹13,782 crore over the past seven days. In contrast, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth ₹14,867 crore during the same period, providing some support to the market. Over the past 30 days, FIIs and FPIs have recorded net selling of ₹69,810 crore, while DIIs have invested ₹80,455 crore. Note: Net buying and selling figures for FIIs and DIIs are in ₹ crore. Sensex, Nifty Fell on October 7 Too The Indian market had also ended lower in the previous session on October 7. The Sensex fell 429 points, or around 0.6%, to close at 72,639. The Nifty declined by around 173 points to end at 22,603. The continued decline in the benchmark indices comes as investors track global market trends and foreign fund flows, while selling pressure remains visible in sectors such as metals and real estate.
