gst-portal-introduces-‘multi-state-registration’-facility:businesses-can-now-obtain-gst-numbers-in-multiple-states-using-a-single-pan-card

GSTN has issued an advisory announcing the activation of the multi-State registration facility on the GST portal. Under the new system, regular taxpayers using the same PAN can apply for GST registration in multiple States and Union territories across India through a single process. How will the new process work? Taxpayers will first have to select the required States or Union territories through the new tab available on the portal. Once the selection is made, a ‘Master TRN’ will be generated, after which the common information must be submitted within 15 days. After the CRI is submitted, separate TRNs will be generated for each selected State, while the common details will be auto-populated. Taxpayers will then only need to provide State-specific business and location details and complete Aadhaar authentication. Common details need to be entered only once Advocate Avinash Poddar said, “The facility will simplify the registration process for taxpayers and chartered accountants expanding operations across multiple States.” He added, “Earlier, common information had to be entered separately for each State, whereas the new system allows the forms for multiple States to be completed by providing the common details only once.” He further said, “The move is expected to make GST registration more convenient and support ease of doing business.”
