The government will bar telecom operators from issuing a 10th SIM card to customers who already have nine active mobile connections in their name, it said on Thursday. The rule will take effect nationwide from Aug 24, according to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Customers seeking additional SIM cards after reaching the prescribed limit will be denied a new connection by telecom operators. The government has also set a lower limit of six mobile connections for customers in Jammu and Kashmir and the northeastern states.
