A devastating road accident on National Highway-43 in Umaria district claimed the lives of five people, including a child, on Thursday. An out-of-control car crashed into the rear of a moving truck near the Civil Lines police outpost under Kotwali police station limits. Three women, one man and a child died in the accident, while another woman sustained critical injuries and is undergoing treatment at the district hospital. Family was travelling from Anuppur to Chitrakoot According to police, six people, including the driver, were travelling in an Ertiga car (registration number MP-18 ZE-9677) from Anuppur district to Chitrakoot. Near Siddh Baba at Bharoula, the vehicle reportedly went out of control and rammed into the back of a truck moving ahead on the highway. The impact of the collision was severe. Two women and a young child died on the spot. One victim trapped inside car A male occupant was trapped inside the mangled vehicle after the crash. Police personnel and the 108 ambulance team carried out a rescue operation and managed to pull him out. He was rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Another injured victim later succumbed to injuries during treatment, taking the death toll to five. The injured woman remains admitted to the district hospital, where doctors are closely monitoring her condition. Police seize truck, investigation underway Soon after receiving information about the accident, teams from Kotwali police station and the Civil Lines police outpost reached the spot and shifted the injured to the district hospital. Doctors initially confirmed four deaths, while a fifth victim died during treatment later. Police have seized the truck involved in the accident and launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. Efforts are also underway to establish the identities of the deceased and inform their family members.
