The supply of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in the country has now become normal. The central government has withdrawn the ‘Emergency Natural Gas Supply Regulation Order’ implemented in the country during the America-Israel and Iran war. LNG is widely used in industries, so that this decision will bring relief to them. This decision has been taken after a ceasefire in West Asia, and the resumption of normal movement of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) ships through the ‘Strait of Hormuz’. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas issued a new notification in this regard on Saturday. Supply crisis due to closure of the Hormuz route, emergency order implemented on March 9 The Ministry of Petroleum stated that due to attacks by America and Israel on Iran on February 28 and subsequent retaliatory action by Iran, the supply of gas and oil from the Strait of Hormuz had completely stopped. Subsequently, several foreign suppliers had stopped gas cargoes destined for India or diverted them to other countries. To address this crisis, the government issued an emergency order on March 9, 2026, to regulate gas supply in the country under the Essential Commodities Act. The government withdrew all 3 emergency decisions after the crisis was averted Lifting the ban on LNG supply is the government’s third major step. Earlier, the government had withdrawn two other emergency decisions. Why is the closure of the Strait of Hormuz route dangerous for India? India is the world’s third-largest oil importer and consumer. India buys about 88% of its crude oil and about 50% of its natural gas (LNG) from other countries. About 40-45% of India’s total crude oil imports and about 65% of its total LNG supply come from West Asia, i.e., the Gulf countries. Most LNG comes from Qatar, whose ships have to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. This is why even a slight tension on this route causes the threat of a fuel crisis to loom over India.
