A 21-year-old B.Tech final-year student at Sagar University allegedly died by suicide after being distressed by cyber fraud and blackmail by digital loan agents. Police said he had been receiving threatening calls from Pakistani numbers, while chats on his mobile showed threats to morph his family’s photos into nude images and make them viral. His elder brother’s wedding was scheduled for 7 July. The deceased was identified as Aman Prajapati, a resident of Auder village in Ashoknagar district. On Friday evening, he had checked into Lakshmi Lodge in Chhoti Bajariya, Bina, where the incident took place. About to catch a train to Prayagraj Lodge owner Raju Sonkar said that Aman had booked room number-103. He had asked to be woken up on time in the morning to catch a train to Prayagraj. When the employee went to wake him up in the morning, the room door was found locked from the inside. Despite calling out several times, there was no response. Looking through the window, Aman was found hanging from a noose. Upon receiving information, the police arrived and sent the body for post-mortem. Final-year B.Tech student The deceased’s elder brother, Sunil Prajapati, said, Aman was studying while staying in Sagar’s Post Matric Hostel and Poddar Colony. He had left home on 2 July without informing anyone. After a lot of searching, when he could not be found, a missing person report was filed at Gopalganj police station. Cyber fraud revealed through mobile phone Sunil Prajapati said that shocking information was found during the investigation of Aman’s mobile phone. Records of continuous calls from Pakistani numbers were found on the phone. Through these calls, he was being cyber-cheated, and money was being extorted from him. Evidence was also found in the mobile phone, which shows that different loan agents were also constantly calling him and mentally harassing him. Aman had never told his family about this pressure. The whole matter came to light only after his death. Wedding joys turned into mourning Aman was the youngest of four brothers. His elder brother, Priyatesh Prajapati, was to get married on 7 July. Wedding preparations were underway at home, but the news of Aman’s death turned the happiness into mourning. Information to be available after mobile lock is opened R.K. Joram, in-charge of Bina’s Chhoti Bajariya police outpost, said that the deceased’s mobile phone is locked. The phone has been seized for investigation. Calls and chats from Pakistani numbers are being investigated. Cyber fraud networks and harassment by loan agents will also be investigated.
