The body of Gram Panchayat Assistant Secretary Surya Pratap Singh Songira (35), who was swept away while crossing a culvert during heavy rain in the village of Gavdi Lodha in the Ingoria police station area of Ujjain district, was recovered from the Chambal River on Saturday morning after approximately 36 hours. His body was found about 4 and a half kilometers away from the incident site. According to information, on Thursday at approximately 7:30 PM, Suryaprakash Singh was returning from Ujjain with Krishna Pal Singh from his village. There was a strong flow of water over the old culvert built on the stream at Gavdi Lodha. Krishna Pal Singh got off the bike sensing the danger, but Suryaprakash Singh attempted to take the bike across. During this, he was caught in the strong current along with the bike and was swept away. Searching conducted in 3-km area After receiving information about the incident, around 9:30 PM on Thursday, Homeguard, SDRF and local administration started the rescue operation. On Friday, with the cooperation of villagers, a search was conducted in an area of approximately 2 and a half to 3 kilometers throughout the day. During this, his bike was found about 300 meters away from the culvert, but no trace of Suryaprakash Singh could be found. The search operation had to be stopped due to darkness in the evening and strong current in the Chambal river. The rescue operation was resumed on Saturday morning. A 15-16 member team of Homeguards conducted extensive searching in the Chambal River with the help of motorboats and high-capacity OBM (Outboard Motor). Finally, around 10 AM, the body of Suryaprakash Singh was recovered from the Chambal River approximately four and a half kilometers away from the incident site. Drain meets the Chambal River According to Homeguard officer Santosh Jat, the drain in which Suryapratap Singh was swept away meets the Chambal River approximately 3 km ahead. From there too, the body had drifted about one and a half kilometers further, due to which the total distance became approximately four and a half kilometers.
