A day before the second T20I against India in Manchester, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced a 16-member squad for the three-match ODI series, starting on 14 July 2026. 27-year-old Harry Brook is set to lead the English team in the 50-over format. However, the English side has also announced their playing XIs for the second T20I match as well. Earlier, India had already announced the squad for the ODI series in England. Shubman Gill will lead the side. However, the main focus will be on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s return after recovering from the hamstring injury during IPL 2026. Uncapped James Coles included, Atkinson-Mahmood return Sussex all-rounder James Coles received a maiden call-up in their 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India. Fast bowlers Josh Tongue, who is yet to make his ODI debut, and Jofra Archer, returning after last featuring in the format in November last year, have also been included. Pacers Gus Atkinson and Saqib Mahmood are back in the squad after missing England’s ODI tour of Sri Lanka earlier this year. Harry Brook will continue to captain the side in white-ball cricket amid reports linking him with the vacant Test captaincy. England have made four changes to the squad that toured Sri Lanka in January-February. Archer, Atkinson, Mahmood and Coles replace Brydon Carse, Zak Crawley, Jamie Overton and Luke Wood. The match is scheduled to be played on 4 July 2026 at, Old Trafford. Notably, the first T20I was abadoned due to ran in Durham. England pacer Jofra Archer returns to the playing XI as Saqib Mahmood has been excluded despite outstanding bowling in the first T20I match. Mahmood has taken three wickets, conceding 33 runs in his four overs against India on Wednesday. India focus on Virat’s comeback, Rohit’s approach under the radar As India have already announced their squad for the much-awaited ODI series, the spotlight will be on Virat Kohli’s return and recovery after suffering a hamstring injury during the IPL 2026 final against Gujarat Titans (GT). Notably, this series will be Shubman Gill’s fourth 50-over assignment as a captain after dealing with Australia, New Zealand and Afghanistan. However, Rohit Sharma’s batting approach will be under the scanner in the context of the 2027 ODI World Cup selection. Recently, he had scored 143 runs in three matches with an average of 47.66, including one half-century.
