Former Australian cricketer and fast bowler Aaron Summers could face jail time in a case of sexual exploitation of a minor girl. The 30-year-old Summers confessed to his crime during a hearing in Tasmania’s Supreme Court. Summers changed his plea at the end of June. He admitted to charges of penetrative sexual abuse of two children and grooming a child with the intent to show obscene content. The court has rejected Summers’ bail and sent him into custody. The court will pronounce its final verdict in August. Befriended on social media, then took to school and exploited The entire incident dates back to January 16, 2018. At that time, Summers was part of the Hobart Hurricanes team in the Australian Big Bash League (BBL). According to the court hearing, Summers contacted a 15-year-old minor girl through social media. On the day of the incident, he picked her up in his car from near her house and took her to a local school. There he sexually abused the teenager. Lawyer’s argument- ‘He was feeling lonely’ During the hearing, Summers’ lawyer Caroline Graves argued that her client was going through a difficult time at the time of the incident. He was feeling quite isolated in society. Due to this, he was using social media excessively. The lawyer said – Summers has now realized his mistakes. The risk of him committing such a crime again is extremely low. He appealed to the court to completely suspend Summers’ sentence (suspended sentence). However, Justice Helen Wood rejected this demand. Summers has been to jail before Summers has had a long association with controversies and crimes. He has previously served jail sentences in other cases of child sexual abuse. Summers was found guilty in 2021 in Australia’s Northern Territory of possessing child abuse material and sending it to others. He served a jail sentence in this case. After this, he was arrested and extradited from Northern Territory in 2025 for the Tasmania case. Summers’ cricket career Aaron Summers was a fast bowler. He played one match for Hobart Hurricanes at the end of 2017. He made his debut in 2018. After this, he also played three one-day matches for Tasmania Tigers.
