A court in Jabalpur has sentenced a 45-year-old man to life imprisonment for murdering his mother and attempting to kill his wife. Additional Sessions Judge Swayam Kumar Dubey convicted Rajendra Vishwakarma of murder and attempt to murder. The court also imposed a fine of ₹5,000 on the convict. The case pertains to Jaraund village, where Rajendra Vishwakarma murdered his 70-year-old bedridden mother, Moonga Bai, by slitting her throat. According to the police, Moonga Bai was seriously ill and completely dependent on others for care. Rajendra looked after her, but frequent disputes arose because his wife, Archana, allegedly did not assist in caring for his mother. Police said another argument over the issue on the day of the incident escalated into violence, prompting Rajendra to attack his mother with a sharp-edged weapon. Wife survived attack, accused attempted suicide After killing his mother, Rajendra allegedly attacked his wife with the same weapon. Archana managed to escape the house despite sustaining injuries and alerted villagers. When locals reached the house, they found Moonga Bai’s blood-soaked body inside. Seeing the villagers approaching, Rajendra allegedly attempted to die by suicide by slitting his own throat with the weapon. He was immediately taken to hospital for treatment.
