In a shocking case, a man allegedly murdered his father with an axe over a dispute involving ₹40,000, hid the body inside an iron trunk for nearly six months, and later disposed of the skeletal remains in a river. According to the information for almost 11 months after the murder, the accused continued telling villagers and relatives that his father had gone to Mumbai for work. The crime came to light during a missing person investigation. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Datia Superintendent of Police Mayur Khandelwal said the deceased’s son, Nitin Bundela, and his uncle, Kalli alias Aspendra Bundela, had been arrested in connection with the case. Missing complaint filed after 11 months The incident took place in Chhata village under Badoni police station limits in Datia district. On June 28, 2026, Shivraj Singh Bundela lodged a missing person complaint, stating that his younger brother, Udaybhan Singh Bundela (45), had been missing for nearly 11 months. He also expressed suspicion that his nephew, Nitin, was involved in the disappearance. Based on the complaint, police registered a missing person case and launched an investigation. Accused initially fabricated accident story During questioning, Nitin initially claimed that his father had died in August 2025 in an accident while replacing the blade of a tractor cultivator. He alleged that out of fear, he hid the body in an iron trunk and later disposed of it in the Samli River with the help of his uncle. However, an investigation by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team and examination of the alleged accident site and the cultivator found no evidence supporting his claim. Confronted with the forensic findings, Nitin eventually confessed to murdering his father. Killed father after spending ₹40,000 on alcohol and gambling According to police, Udaybhan had given his son ₹40,000 to pay tractor loan instalments and meet farming expenses. Nitin admitted that he spent the money on alcohol and gambling. When his father demanded the money back, frequent arguments broke out between them. One night in August 2025, while Udaybhan was sleeping on a cot outside the house, Nitin allegedly attacked him with an axe, striking his head three to four times and killing him on the spot. Body hidden in iron trunk for 6 months After the murder, Nitin wrapped the body in a blanket, placed it inside an iron trunk, locked the room, and disposed of the blood-stained cot. He stayed with relatives for some time before returning to the village, where he repeatedly claimed that his father had gone to Mumbai for work. After nearly six months, when the body had decomposed into a skeleton, Nitin informed his uncle, Kalli alias Aspendra Bundela, about the crime. The two allegedly wrapped the skeletal remains and other remains in the same blanket and disposed of them near a culvert on the Samli River during the night. Murder exposed after dispute with uncle Police said the crime came to light after Nitin and his uncle had a fallout. Following the dispute, the uncle allegedly informed family members that Nitin had killed his father. The family then alerted the police, leading to a detailed investigation. Human remains, clothes recovered from river Acting on the accused’s disclosure, police recovered human bones, the deceased’s clothes, the blanket used to wrap the body, and other remains from the Samli River. Family members identified the deceased through his clothing. Police also seized the iron trunk in which the body had been concealed for several months, along with other crucial evidence collected during the investigation. Based on circumstantial evidence, forensic findings, and the accused’s statements, police have registered a case of murder and destruction of evidence against Nitin Bundela and Kalli alias Aspendra Bundela. Both accused have been arrested and produced before a court.
