In a shocking incident, a newly married woman allegedly fled her matrimonial home with gold, silver, and other valuables by escaping through a neighbouring rooftop, just hours after the wedding. The incident came to light on Tuesday morning when the groom and his family discovered she was missing. After reviewing CCTV footage from the area, they allegedly saw the bride fleeing by jumping across the neighbouring rooftop. The groom subsequently approached the University Police Station and lodged a complaint. Later in the day, the bride’s father and brother brought her to the police station, where they allegedly urged the groom to take her back. He, however, refused. During the preliminary investigation, police also came across allegations that the woman had previously been involved in a similar dispute with another prospective groom. The claims are being verified, and the investigation is ongoing. Wedding celebrations turn into shock overnight According to the complainant, Jitendra Joshi, he married Namrata Joshi, daughter of Hiralal Joshi and a resident of Jhundpura in Morena district, on June 29, 2026, in accordance with Hindu customs. After the wedding, the bride arrived at her matrimonial home. However, on the morning after the wedding, the family allegedly found that she had disappeared after taking gold, silver, and other valuables from the house. CCTV footage shows bride leaving via neighbour’s rooftop After discovering that the bride was missing, the family checked CCTV footage from nearby houses. According to the groom, the footage allegedly shows the bride escaping by climbing onto a neighbouring rooftop and jumping across before leaving the area. The incident left the groom and his family in shock. Groom refuses to accept bride back Jitendra Joshi approached the police station to lodge a complaint. Shortly afterwards, the bride’s father and brother arrived at the police station with the woman and allegedly asked the groom to take her back. Jitendra refused, saying, “Our marriage had not even completed one night before she fled with the jewellery. She has brought disgrace to my family and me. I am frightened by this incident and will not take her back under any circumstances.” Police probe previous allegations During the investigation, the complainant’s family alleged that the woman had earlier been engaged to Jashrath Joshi, a resident of Jargaon in Gwalior district. According to the allegations, during the engagement ceremony, Jashrath’s family had given her gold and silver jewellery along with cash. The relationship later ended following a dispute. The complainant alleged that when Jashrath sought the return of the jewellery and cash, he was allegedly assaulted by members of the woman’s family and the valuables were not returned. Police said these allegations are also being examined as part of the investigation. Groom seeks protection, cites threat to life Jitendra Joshi has submitted a written complaint seeking a fair investigation and legal action, claiming that no other young man should become a victim of what he described as a “fraud bride gang.” He also expressed concern that the woman and her family could pose a threat to his safety and that of his family members. In his complaint, he stated that if any harm comes to him or his family, responsibility should rest with his wife and her relatives. Police investigating the matter According to City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Manish Yadav, a complaint had been received from the groom alleging that his wife fled with the family’s jewellery the day after the wedding. He said that while the groom was at the police station, the bride’s father and brother arrived with the woman and allegedly attempted to persuade him to take her back. The groom also informed police that he feared for his safety. Police said the allegations made by both sides are being investigated, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
