India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is now live in Greece. Greece has become the new country to join this digital payment network. A live demo of this service, launched through a partnership between Eurobank and NPCI International Payments Limited, was also witnessed at Eurobank’s headquarters in Athens. Demo took place in the presence of Union Minister Piyush Goyal Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, witnessed the live demo of this service during his official visit to Athens. He stated that the global acceptance of UPI proves that the world’s trust in India’s technology is growing. This technology can work excellently across borders. UPI facility will now be available in 10 countries After Greece joins this network, UPI can now be used in various forms in 10 countries around the world. It provides facilities for Indian travelers ranging from QR-code based merchant payments to cross-border remittance services (transferring money). UPI was launched in Cambodia before Greece Just before Greece, Cambodia became the 9th country to join this list. For this, NPCI International Payments Limited partnered with ACLEDA Bank there. Under this, cross-border UPI payments were launched through Cambodia’s National QR code ‘KHQR’.
Prior to this, Singapore, UAE, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Bhutan, Qatar, and Sri Lanka were listed as the eight countries where UPI is being accepted.
