In Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district, a 7-year-old boy drowned in a river on Sunday in front of his father on Father’s Day. After pulling him out of the water, the father performed CPR for nearly 20 minutes in an attempt to revive him, but the child could not be saved. When doctors at the hospital mentioned a post-mortem, the father broke down and pleaded with folded hands, refusing to allow the body of his child to be cut. Accident at Narmada River in Khalghat The incident took place on Sunday at the Khalghat ghat of the Narmada river. Ramshankar, a resident of Chhota Dewas village in Harda district, works in a private company in Pithampur. He had come to the river with his cousin Ashwin Chauhan and his two sons—Krishna (7) and Narayan (5)—around 11 am. While bathing at the ghat, Krishna started feeding fish in the water. During this time, he slipped and fell into deep water. People present at the spot searched for him for around 15 minutes, but he could not be traced. After a difficult search operation, the child was pulled out of the river. Ramshankar and Dial-112 constable Deepak Mandloi then performed CPR for about 20 minutes to revive the boy’s fading breath. He was rushed to Dhamnod hospital, where doctors declared Krishna dead. Father’s grief over post-mortem The father, who had once taught his son to walk by holding his finger, was now left holding his lifeless body. Ramshankar was inconsolable and repeatedly requested doctors not to conduct a post-mortem. By then, the child’s mother had also reached the hospital from Pithampur. After nearly five hours of counselling by police officials to complete legal procedures, the post-mortem was finally conducted and the body was handed over to the family.
