The Madhya Pradesh government has amended the Direct Recruitment Rules, 2021, to provide government job opportunities to outstanding sportspersons in the Police Department. Under the revised rules, 10 posts of Sub-Inspector (SI) and 50 posts of Constable will be filled through direct recruitment under the sports quota. The move marks the resumption of sports quota recruitment after five years. The government has also decided to hold the recruitment process every year. According to the revised provisions, the selection, eligibility and evaluation process has been streamlined to make recruitment more transparent. The government said the changes will allow sportspersons to enter government service on the basis of their achievements in recognised competitions. International-level athletes eligible for SI posts Under the amended rules, direct recruitment to SI posts will be restricted to sportspersons who have participated in or won medals at major international events. Eligible candidates include medal winners at the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, World Cup and World Championships. Athletes who have represented the country at these events will also qualify. National medal winners can apply for constable posts For constable recruitment, eligibility has been extended to athletes who have won medals at the National Games and recognised National Championships. Players who have secured gold, silver or bronze medals in these competitions will be eligible. Those who qualify for SI recruitment will automatically be considered eligible for constable posts as well. Eligibility criteria notified in gazette The amended rules have been published in the state gazette. The notification lays down the eligibility criteria and recruitment framework for sportspersons seeking appointment in the police force under the sports quota.
