ucc-bill-to-be-introduced-in-upcoming-monsoon-session:cm-yadav-confident-of-passage-and-full-rollout-by-diwali-this-year

The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav-led government is preparing to introduce the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill during the upcoming Monsoon Session of the State Assembly from July 20. Addressing the media, the Yadav said the proposal would be brought before the Assembly in the session beginning on July 20 and expressed confidence that, “if Mahakal wills it,” the Bill could also be passed during the same session. With this move, the ruling saffron party has taken another step toward implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Madhya Pradesh, following similar initiatives undertaken in states such as Uttarakhand and Gujarat. BJP MLA backs UCC move in state BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma welcomed the state government’s decision to introduce the UCC Bill. He said the legislation reflects a nationwide demand and described it as important for the country’s security. Sharma also argued that implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) would help address issues related to population control, adding that several other states have already initiated steps toward introducing similar legislation. High-level committee formed to draft the UCC In line with the Chief Minister’s directive, the Madhya Pradesh government formed a six-member high-level committee on April 27 this year to examine the feasibility of implementing the Uniform Civil Code and prepare a draft framework. The committee is chaired by retired Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai and includes former IAS officer Shatrughan Singh, legal expert Anoop Nair, academic Gopal Sharma, and social worker Buddhpal Singh, among others. Public consultations conducted across the state The committee visited different parts of Madhya Pradesh and sought feedback from various sections of society. It also launched an official online portal to collect suggestions from citizens and organisations. The consultation window for submitting proposals and recommendations was open from May 15 to June 15. According to officials, online feedback continues to be solicited through public outreach initiatives. Government targets Diwali rollout The committee was instructed to submit its report and draft legislation within 60 days of its formation. After incorporating public suggestions and inputs received during consultations, the draft is now being finalised. The state government aims to table and secure passage of the Bill during the Monsoon Session and is targeting full implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in Madhya Pradesh by Diwali this year.
