Gwalior police arrested a man accused of vandalizing vehicles and attacking residents over two consecutive nights in Shri Vihar Colony under the Bahodapur police station limits. The accused has been identified as Vivek Yadav, a jail guard posted at Morena Jail. He was arrested on Monday after police registered a case against him based on CCTV footage and other evidence. Resident allegedly attacked after questioning suspect According to police, Sudip Pratap Verma, a resident of Shri Vihar Colony, filed a complaint stating that at around 2:30 AM on June 14, he noticed a man behaving suspiciously in the neighborhood. When Verma questioned him, the suspect allegedly became abusive and attacked him with a stone, injuring his hand. The accused then reportedly smashed the windshield of Verma’s Hyundai i10 and also broke the rear window of a neighboring Maruti WagonR owned by Harish Sharma. Accused returned the next night to continue vandalism In a surprising turn, the suspect allegedly returned to the same colony the following night and continued damaging property. Police said he broke the rear window of Pradyumna Maheshwari’s Fiat car and also threw stones at the iron gate of Umashankar Dwivedi’s residence. The repeated incidents over two nights created fear and anxiety among local residents. CCTV footage led investigators to the suspect After reviewing surveillance footage from the colony and surrounding areas, investigators spotted a Kia Seltos vehicle linked to the incidents. Using the vehicle’s registration details, police identified the suspect as Vivek Yadav, a resident of Anand Nagar in Gwalior who is currently employed as a jail guard in Morena. Police say accused may have been under the influence Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused has a history of substance abuse. Police believe he may have been under the influence of intoxicants when the alleged acts of violence and vandalism occurred. Case registered; further investigation underway Bahodapur Station House Officer Alok Singh Parihar said that Vivek Yadav has been booked on charges related to assault, vandalism, and other applicable offences. He has been taken into custody and is being questioned. Police added that the alleged conduct is particularly serious given that the accused is a government employee, and appropriate legal and departmental action will be pursued in accordance with the law.
