In the religious city of Ujjain, thieves targeted a temple and stole cash kept in its donation box. The miscreants broke the lock of the donation box and fled with money that had reportedly been collected over the past three years. The incident came to light on Friday morning. The theft took place at Himaneshwar Mahadev Temple in Raj Royal Enclave Colony under the Chimanganj Mandi police station area. According to police, unidentified miscreants entered the temple late on Thursday night, broke open the donation box and escaped with the cash stored inside. Devotees find broken lock, scattered items The incident was discovered when local residents arrived at the temple for worship on Friday morning. They found the donation box lock broken and several items scattered across the temple premises. Residents immediately informed the police. A police team from Chimanganj Mandi police station reached the spot and began an investigation. CCTV footage under scrutiny Police have started examining footage from CCTV cameras installed inside the temple and in nearby areas. Local residents are also being questioned as part of the investigation. However, no leads have been found so far. Donation money was meant for temple renovation Local resident Yuvraj Singh Pawar said the temple’s donation box had not been opened for nearly three years. As renovation work at the temple remains incomplete, the box was kept sealed to safeguard the collected donations. Residents believe a significant amount of money had accumulated in the donation box during this period. Residents express anger over theft The incident has sparked anger among local residents, who described the theft from a place of worship as deeply shameful. Police have registered a case against unidentified accused and launched a search operation to trace the culprits.
