A woman allegedly opened fire on Yogita Singh, daughter-in-law of the Nagod royal family in Madhya Pradesh’s Satna district, during a family meeting aimed at resolving a long-running domestic dispute. Yogita sustained a bullet injury to her stomach and was admitted to hospital in critical condition. The incident took place on Thursday at Parsamniya Garhi. Police have arrested the accused, Sunita Parihar, and seized the licensed rifle allegedly used in the shooting. Dispute escalated during family talks According to police and family members, Yogita Singh is the wife of Rupendra Singh, also known as Baba Raja, nephew of former minister and BJP MLA Nagendra Singh. Yogita and Rupendra had reportedly been involved in a long-standing family dispute. To resolve the matter, Yogita’s parents, brother and other relatives had travelled from Udaipur in Rajasthan to Nagod. During discussions between the two sides on Thursday, tensions reportedly escalated, leading to the firing. Mother alleges son-in-law encouraged shooting Yogita’s mother, Narendra Kumari, alleged that Sunita Parihar, who was present inside the fort, fired nine rounds during the confrontation. She claimed that her son-in-law Rupendra Singh repeatedly told Sunita to “shoot” during the altercation. One bullet struck Yogita in the stomach, causing her to collapse. Narendra Kumari further alleged that Sunita had been living with Rupendra Singh for nearly seven years and had moved into the family property after the death of Yogita’s father-in-law. “We had come for talks. My son-in-law pushed my daughter out of the room and shut the door. Sunita then fired from a window,” she alleged. Surgery performed, condition stable Yogita underwent surgery that continued until around 1 am on Friday. She regained consciousness at about 10 am, according to her family. Hospital sources said her condition has improved after the operation and she is now out of danger. However, she remains under medical observation. Family members and people associated with the royal family are present at the hospital. Police investigating all angles Police officials said a detailed investigation is underway to determine the circumstances that led to the firing. Officers are examining how the shooting occurred, the sequence of events and the motive behind the incident. The licensed rifle allegedly used in the firing has been seized. Relatives allegedly assault husband after shooting Sources said Yogita’s relatives became enraged after she was shot and allegedly assaulted Rupendra Singh. People present at the fort intervened and brought the situation under control. Tension reportedly prevailed in the area for some time before the situation calmed down. Couple had been living separately People associated with the royal family said Yogita and Rupendra had been living separately for several years because of differences between them. Yogita had reportedly left Parsamniya Garhi and was staying at Nagod Fort. Her relatives recently arrived from Udaipur and took her to Parsamniya Garhi on Thursday, where Rupendra Singh and Sunita Parihar were present. During the meeting, the dispute allegedly intensified and ended in the shooting. Additional police force deployed Following the incident, police deployed additional personnel in Parsamniya Garhi and nearby areas as a precautionary measure. Officials said the situation is under control, but security has been strengthened due to tensions arising after the shooting. The incident has drawn significant attention in the region, with locals gathering to seek information about the case.
