former-bjp-minister-receives-death-threats-again:police-register-fir-against-unidentified-person

Former BJP minister and ex-MLA from Jabalpur West constituency, Harendrajeet Singh “Babbu”, has alleged that he is receiving repeated death threats but police have failed to take effective action despite multiple complaints. Following his latest complaint, police have registered an FIR against an unknown person and initiated an investigation. Repeated threats over two months Speaking to the media, Babbu said that this is the second time in the last two months that he has received death threats. He claimed that he had earlier informed senior police officials, including the IG and DIG, but no concrete action was taken. He has now urged Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav to intervene in the matter. Phone call threat and alleged misbehavior Babbu stated that two days ago, while travelling alone in the Gorakhpur area at night, he received a phone call from an unknown person who threatened to kill him. He immediately went to the Gorakhpur police station and informed the Station House Officer (SHO). According to Babbu, the SHO called back the same number, and the caller reportedly admitted to issuing the threat and even misbehaved with the police officer. “If a former minister is unsafe…” Expressing concern, Babbu said that if a former minister and 25-year-long legislator can receive open death threats, it raises serious questions about public safety. He also recalled a previous attack incident in which bombs were allegedly hurled at him, leaving him injured and requiring hospitalisation. Babbu appealed to the Chief Minister, saying the complaint should be taken seriously to prevent any major incident in the future. Demand for security The former minister has demanded security protection, stating that continuous threats have created fear for his safety. He warned that if timely action is not taken, a serious incident could occur. FIR registered, investigation begins Gorakhpur CSP M.D. Nagotiya confirmed that an FIR has been registered against an unknown person under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 351(3) and 351(4). Police are tracking the mobile number used for the threat and investigating its origin. Officials also said the threat may be linked to a recent public event or statement made by Babbu, although this is yet to be confirmed. Congress targets government The Congress party has also criticised the state government over the incident. City Congress president Saurabh Sharma said that if even a former BJP minister is forced to seek police protection, it raises serious concerns about law and order in the state. He alleged that criminal elements are becoming increasingly emboldened and questioned the effectiveness of the administration. Investigation ongoing Police continue to trace the caller and examine digital evidence. The case has now become both a political and administrative issue, drawing attention across party lines.
