ec-to-decide-on-meenakshi-nomination-complaint-within-2-hours:congress-holds-collective-fast-in-bhopal

The controversy has intensified after the nomination of Congress Rajya Sabha candidate Meenakshi Natarajan from Madhya Pradesh was rejected. A 10-member Congress delegation is set to meet the Chief Election Commissioner in New Delhi shortly over the issue. The delegation includes K.C. Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, Randeep Surjewala, Sachin Pilot, Bhupesh Baghel, Deepa Dasmunshi, Vivek Tankha, Meenakshi Natarajan, Mohammed Ali Khan and Umar Hoda. On Tuesday, election officials rejected Natarajan’s nomination after finding alleged irregularities in her affidavit. Following the decision, Congress leaders staged protests outside Election Commission offices in New Delhi and Bhopal. The BJP alleged that she had concealed information about a pending case in a Hyderabad court in her affidavit. The Congress, however, described the rejection of Natarajan’s nomination as a “murder of democracy” and an attempt to “steal a seat”. Meanwhile, in Bhopal, Congress workers reached the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Wednesday. After finding the gate closed, they hung a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) uniform on the office gate as a mark of protest and then left the premises. Cancelling nomination is wrong, it’s a political conspiracy Congress alleged that the Election Commission is working under pressure from BJP. The party said that cancelling the nomination is wrong and it is a political conspiracy. Congress said that it will also approach the Supreme Court in this matter. Leaders say that the case on the basis of which the nomination was cancelled is not a criminal case. Also, the court has not yet taken cognizance of that case.
