At the New Chandigarh Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) has established a ‘Wall of Fame’ to preserve Punjab’s sports history. This wall features photographs of 33 legendary cricketers from Punjab who have brought glory to the state at national and international levels across the world. It also includes group photos of the Indian team’s historic and glorious moments of winning the ODI and T20 World Cups. Female cricketers who have enhanced Punjab’s pride have been given a special place on this wall to further promote women’s cricket. Photographs of Shubman Gill, Yuvraj, and Harmanpreet are included. It was inaugurated by BCCI President Mithun Manhas and PCA Honorary Secretary Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer. PCA Joint Secretary Siddhant Sharma was also present on this occasion. It also includes group photos of the Indian team’s historic and glorious moments of winning the ODI and T20 World Cups. India won six World Cups combined in different categories Referring to the country’s cricket history, officials stated that the Indian men’s and women’s cricket teams have won a total of 6 World Cups so far. These include three ODI World Cups (two men’s and one women’s) and three T20 World Cups (2007, 2024 and 2026). Punjab’s historic victories have also been preserved. The Wall of Fame not only features individual players but also revives memories of the Punjab team’s historic victories. It includes memorable moments of the Punjab team that won the Ranji Trophy in the 1992-93 season, and pictures of the victorious Punjab team that clinched this trophy in the 2022-23 season. Proud moment for Punjab cricketers PCA Secretary Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said, We are proud of the achievements of Punjab’s cricketers. This ‘Wall of Fame’ is an effort to preserve the rich sporting heritage of the state, so that young players can draw inspiration from them. This initiative will ensure that Punjab’s contribution to the country’s sports history remains immortal. BCCI President Mithun Manhas highly praised PCA’s unique initiative. He called it a proud and inspiring step to keep sports history alive.
