A truck driver was assaulted by an angry mob in the presence of police officers following a fatal road accident in Bhind district. The crowd allegedly dragged the driver out of a Dial-112 emergency response vehicle, where he had taken shelter, and assaulted him before setting the truck on fire. The incident occurred near Amaha village in the Daboh area on Sunday morning. A video of the incident surfaced on Monday. Police have since registered a case against 18 people, including 13 named accused and five unidentified individuals. Motorcyclist killed in collision with truck According to police, Himmat Rajak, a resident of Salaiya village in Uttar Pradesh, was riding a motorcycle when it collided with an oncoming truck bearing registration number MP07HB4805. Himmat Rajak died on the spot, while his uncle, Dinesh Rajak, sustained serious injuries in the crash. Following the accident, local residents reportedly apprehended the truck driver, identified as Sonu Rayakwar. Driver pulled out of police vehicle After receiving information about the accident, a Dial-112 emergency response team arrived at the scene. To escape the crowd, Sonu Rayakwar reportedly took refuge inside the police vehicle. However, witnesses alleged that the mob surrounded the vehicle, forcibly pulled him out, and began assaulting him again. A video of the incident shows a group of people confronting and attacking the driver despite the presence of police personnel. Truck set on fire amid chaos Eyewitnesses said police personnel and Sub-Inspector Ravindra Manjhi were initially unable to control the situation. The crowd allegedly vandalized the truck, broke open its diesel tank and set the vehicle ablaze. As the situation escalated, additional police personnel from the Alampur, Aswar and Rawatpura police stations were deployed to the area. Authorities eventually dispersed the crowd and brought the situation under control. Case registered against 18 people Daboh Police Station in-charge Ravi Upadhyay said a case has been registered based on a complaint filed by truck driver Sonu Rayakwar. Police have booked 13 named individuals and five unidentified persons under various legal provisions. Investigators are also examining the viral video and working to identify additional suspects involved in the assault and arson. Investigation continues Police said further action will be taken after reviewing the video evidence and completing the identification of those involved. The incident has raised concerns over mob violence and the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining order and protecting individuals during emotionally charged situations following fatal road accidents.
