A 32-year-old driver of Punjabi origin has been sentenced to 29 years in prison for the murder of a sex worker in the West Midlands, UK. The verdict was delivered by Judge Michael Chambers KC at Wolverhampton Crown Court, who described Tanvir Singh as a young man who acted with cunning and said no leniency would be shown in sentencing. The body of the victim was discovered on the morning of August 11, 2025, at an industrial estate on Woodburn Road in Smethwick. A passerby, who was out for a walk around 6 am, spotted the naked body lying near a pile of rubbish and immediately alerted the police. A post-mortem examination revealed that the cause of death was strangulation. The victim, identified as sex worker Shara, also sustained injuries to her face and head from punches. Following the attack, the accused allegedly dumped the body near the roadside garbage and stole money from her purse. He also poured diesel over the body in an attempt to destroy forensic evidence. West Midlands Police Detective Inspector Jo Davenport said the murder was brutal, adding that the accused was traced and identified through CCTV footage and van tracking. He was later arrested near his residence shortly after the incident. Tanveer’s van was traced from the rental company and the arrest was made after matching the nighttime activities. Jury rejected Tanvir’s arguments Tanvir Singh was tried at Wolverhampton Crown Court. The trial lasted two weeks, in which the jury delivered a murder verdict. Tanvir admitted to unintentional killing and claimed that Shara Miller’s death was an accident, but the jury completely rejected this and found him guilty of murder. The sentence was pronounced on May 27, 2026. Judge Michael Chambers KC sentenced Tanvir to life imprisonment, with 29 years to be served in jail. During this period, the 286 days Tanvir spent on remand will also be added to the sentence.
