Domestic LPG cylinder prices have been increased by ₹29, with the revised rates coming into effect from midnight today. In Delhi, the price of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder has risen from ₹913 to ₹942. This is the second LPG price hike in three months. Earlier, on March 7, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder was increased by ₹60. With the latest revision, domestic LPG prices have gone up by a total of ₹89 within three months. According to sources cited by news agency PTI, oil marketing companies said the increase was necessitated by rising energy costs in the international market and losses incurred on domestic LPG sales. Oil companies claim a loss of ₹703 per cylinder According to sources quoted by news agency PTI, state-run oil marketing companies were incurring a loss of around ₹703 on every domestic LPG cylinder sold. Even after the latest price hike, the increase will only partially offset these losses. Before the latest revision, the government had raised domestic LPG cylinder prices by ₹50 on April 8, 2025. On March 1, 2026, prices of commercial LPG cylinders were increased by up to ₹31. The price of the 5-kg LPG cylinder was also raised by ₹11, taking its cost to ₹821.50. Petrol, diesel and CNG prices also increased In recent weeks, prices of petrol, diesel and CNG have also gone up. Petrol and diesel prices have risen by a combined ₹7.50 per litre since May, while CNG has become about ₹6 per kg costlier. Oil companies claim they are losing around ₹11 per litre on petrol and ₹33.6 per litre on diesel. Despite the hikes, they maintain that petrol and diesel are still being sold below cost. The government has said that the full impact of rising global energy prices has not been passed on to consumers. A portion of the burden caused by higher crude oil prices is being absorbed by state-run oil companies.
