hiv-tragedy-exposes-blood-bank-failures-in-satna:inquiry-report-sparks-row;-recommendation-on-paid-donors-questioned

A shocking revelation has come to light in the case of 6 innocent thalassemia patients getting HIV infected after a blood transfusion at Satna District Hospital. The inquiry committee formed to determine the responsibility of the culprits made a recommendation in its report contrary to the rules of the Union Health Ministry. The committee has stated that ‘blood should be taken from paid professional donors under all circumstances and promoted within the hospital premises.’ Whereas, there is a legal ban on taking blood from paid donors in blood banks across the country. This 270-page preliminary report was submitted to the Health Commissioner by Dr. Yogesh Bharsat, the then Director of the State Blood Transfusion Council and then CEO of Ayushman Bharat, on December 31, 2025. Dr. Bharsat is currently the Collector of Jhabua. According to the documents of the Directorate of Health, in this case that came to light on December 16, 2025, 6 children who received blood transfusions were found to be HIV positive. The committee formed the next day submitted its report within 14 days. The report also revealed serious administrative lapses and negligence on the part of Satna District Hospital management. What kind of system: The investigation committee itself disregarded the rules 6-member committee investigating the HIV infection case Brokers’ Open Game, Health Risk When blood is needed in the hospital premises, ‘paid professional donors’ (blood brokers) are fearlessly active. The management has made no attempt to stop them, which directly endangers the lives of patients. FIR Filed, But No Changes Made FIRs have been registered by the district administration in the past regarding cases of selling blood for money. Despite this, the hospital management has taken no steps to make patients aware of ‘free and safe voluntary blood donation’. Inspection Zero, Hospital Management Sluggish The inquiry committee has directly held the hospital superintendent and hospital manager responsible for these life-threatening irregularities at the Blood Center. The hospital’s security arrangements, Hemoglobinopathy Center, ICTC, ART Center, and Blood Center have been completely left unattended and were never continuously inspected. I will be able to say something after seeing the report The investigation report regarding thalassemia-affected children getting HIV infected at Satna District Hospital’s Blood Center has been submitted. What recommendations have been made in the report?
